Cheryl King has been teaching her Writing Your Heart Out workshop since 1999. In this workshop, held weekly, Cheryl (and a group of experienced writers) do timed writing with feedback, moderated and guided by Cheryl. The participants (including Cheryl) have produced (and published, or performed) content of all kinds – stage plays, screenplays, and literature of various types.
She has coached actors, writers and comedians since 1997, helping them develop their craft. While managing her own theater in NYC for 10 years, she directed dozens of original solo shows, created several annual performance festivals, and received grants and awards from NYC arts organizations.
A professional proofreader for 13 years in NYC, she has copy edited/rewritten a memoir for a client in Los Angeles, and copy edited an acting textbook for a client in NYC.
Cheryl provides consultations for writers at any stage of the process, and can provide services ranging from simple proofreading to complex copy-editing and revision. Fees are based on the project, and free 30-minute consultations are available on a limited basis.
Cheryl King is a woman and artist of fierce grace, heart and intelligence. She has that rare combination of honesty and sensitivity that allows her to meet actors where they are, encouraging them to flourish in an environment that is supportive while also generating artistic growth that is as authentic as it is inventive. Cheryl is curious and open, fostering dynamic exchange between theater artists that leads to singular work that covers a wide range of genres – from the classics to improvisational collaborations
I have had the privilege of working with Ms. King in numerous capacities – she has provided dramaturgical insight into my plays, produced my solo works and served as an unofficial and indispensible editor on my acting book, recently published by Macmillan.
I have also witnessed many of Cheryl’s acting students on stage, and her belief in truthful yet transformative behavior is palpable in their performances, as is her infectious joy and dedication to the process of creating theater that is as electric as it is enriching and inclusive.

As a participant in workshops, as an actor under her direction, and as an audience member who’s marveled at her productions, I am thrilled to know Cheryl’s vision will expand to Northern California with Stage Left Sonoma. Her standards in theater literacy are high – which is why she’s sought after as a solo show developer and director.

She’s directed my plays, produced staged readings and productions of my work, and always done so with professionalism, intelligence, good humor, and taste.
